Once put in the archive the crazy month of March and the first seasonal exits of the Carnival, finally comes Springtime and – along with this season – the desire for the first trips out of the door or the first holidays in “bite and escapes” style, to discover the most charming corners of Italy .
Spring begins under the best auspices, as it offers the first opportunity to make a trip on the first day of April.
Well, this short holiday period lends itself well for a few days of relaxation to discover the Cilento, a land that in this period is more beautiful than ever. It finally wears the dresses of spring.
Together with the first warmth, they are an invitation to explore the territory, with its villages, its history and flavors, set in a unique natural setting, the one of the National Park of Cilento, a destination that always fascinates and conquers the hikers.
The sacred representations of the Easter period
The idea of spending Easter 2024 in Cilento can be really interesting. Because apart from excursions, visits to villages and full immersion among the typical local food and wine products, there is the opportunity to attend events of great charm.
On Holy Saturday at Roccagloriosa
In Roccagloriosa, not far from Palinuro, for five centuries a very special Holy Saturday procession takes place. Very much felt by the locals, it attracts a curious people thanks to the presence of “Hooded monks” the processions who, after having followed different routes, end up meeting at Calvary, in the highest point of the country.
The processions of the confraternities are accompanied by the noisy sound of “tarocciole” and “carrozzuni”, which somehow evoke the pain of Nature for the crucifixion of Christ.
To participate you have to be morning-born: the first faithful meet around 6:30 in the morning.
The Via Crucis between the excavations of Elea-Velia, in Paestum and Agropoli
Even in other centers in the area in the days before Easter, the Living Via Crucis is being offered. One of the most suggestive is proposed in the archaeological site of the excavations of Elea-Velia.
The classic opportunity to seize two pigeons with a bean: on the one hand you will discover an archaeological site of great interest, on the other hand you let yourself be carried by a truly suggestive representation.
No less engaging is the Passion of Christ in that of Paestum, set in the Shrine of Gethsemane. Built in the late 1950s, at the foot of Mount Galpazio, it offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Amalfi Coast and the Piana del Sele. The large park is rich in works of modern art.
The procession in the old town of Agropoli, in the upper part of the city, is also very popular, characterized by the presence of characters in period clothes. But these are just a few examples. Also in other areas of the Cilento there is certainly no shortage of equally interesting performance or important events, including some musical appointments.
At Easter Monday (Pasquetta) assault on farm holidays
It is certain, that if you have chosen this period to spend a few days of relaxation, you cannot fail to stay even on the day of Easter Monday (Pasquetta): in the many Cilento holiday farms you will have the opportunity to discover strong and genuine flavors.

While for the enthusiasts of running, in this period there is an appointment not to be missed: The Race of the Myth, a race that winds along a fascinating route that goes from the tourist port of Palinuro to the port of Marina di Camerota.
It also foresees the presence of some great national and international athletes, but at least for now the names have not been already unveiled. But some “VIPs” will certainly not be missing, since the race is included in the calendar of the FIDAL, the Italian Federation of Athletics.
